Pilot Medical Examinations

Wycombe Air Park hosts a resident Aviation Medical Examiner, Dr Andy Tobias (AME 10251) authorised by the CAA to renew all JAA/CAA Medicals and also issue Initial JAA Class 2's.

Who am I?

I am Dr Andy Tobias AME 10251 authorised by the CAA to renew all JAA/CAA Medicals and also issue Initial JAA Class 2's. I am a qualified GP but now spend virtually all of my professional time involved with aviation medicals and works 2 days a week (usually Wednesdays and Thursdays) here at Wycombe Air Park. I hold a JAR PPL (H) and a PPL (A) with IMC, night and multi engine ratings.

Where am I?

I am based in the red brick office building which can be found on the right hand side just after you have turned into Wycombe Air Park from the main road. Most people still book in at the AFC reception, but some come directly to my office.

How do you book an appointment?

Ring AFC 01494 529262 for an appointment. If you have an appointment and can't make it please advise AFC - another pilot may be able to use your slot.

Please note that there is a failed appointment fee of £55.00 including VAT. This will be charged to people who fail to attend booked appointments or who fail to give 24 hours notice of cancellation (unless the appointment can be filled in which case the fee will be waived). The booking of an appointment is taken as agreeing to this cancellation fee.

What to bring

a) Photographic ID (Passport or DVLA photocard driving licence) is required for ALL medicals unless you have had a medical with me before.

b) Your licence and a record of the number of hours flown.

c) A list of any medication you take, including inhalers. Make certain you know the dose taken. If in doubt, bring the medication with you.

d) Spectacles and contact lenses if worn. A prescription for them (this is mandatory for initial class 2 medicals when the prescription should be less than 6 months old at the time of the medical and helpful if you have had a prescription change since your last medical). If you are a class 1 certificate holder with a distance vision limitation and your prescription changes, then it is mandatory to produce the optician's prescription at the following aviation medical.

Valid as of 01/01/2010 (all subject to VAT at prevailing rate).

COMMERCIAL PILOTS/ATCOs

Renewal JAA Class 1 or Euro Class 3 Medical, £110.00 including VAT

Capillary Haemoglobin blood test due at each JAR Class 1 and ATCO Class 3 Medical £20.00 including VAT

Capillary Cholesterol blood test (due at 1st Examination over 40, or if requested) £21.00 including VAT

Audiometry and report (if due) £35.00 including VAT

ECG recording and reporting (if due) £75.00 including VAT

There is a 25% discount for Shoreham and Wycombe based instructors.

If you want a Health screening blood test profile to include Full Blood Count, Liver and Kidney Function Blood tests, Thyroid blood test, Full blood fat profile, blood sugar and (if male and aged >50 and required) a PSA (prostate screening blood test) I can now offer this, and a report to share with your GP, for an extra £100. (This is usually exempt from VAT). The blood is sent to the lab by post and so I can not offer this on Sarurdays as no postal collection.

PRIVATE PILOTS

Initial Class 2 medical £205.00 including VAT (includes ECG, Blood test, Color vision test etc. etc., in fact everything except a cholesterol blood test which is only mandatory if you have 2 risk factors)Renewal Medical over age 40 (Includes ECG) £185.00 including VAT

Renewal Medical under age 40 (no ECG) £110.00 including VAT

Capillary Cholesterol test due (only at initial and at first renewal over age 40, and only then if you have 2 relevant risk factors), £21.00 including VAT

Extra Blood/urine tests if indicated are priced as charged to me by the local Pathology Lab plus a reasonable administration fee.

AERO MEDICAL CONSULTATIONS

Aero medical consultation up to 30 minutes £55.00 including VAT

Extended consultations and administration charged at £110.00 per hour including VAT

Payment

I prefer a Cheque with a cheque card, but cash is fine. I can now take plastic cards via Paypal, but reserve the right to pass on the paypal fee for this.
